TrainPlayer News, November 2011 --
Announcing Version 4.1
Software developers are like
model railroaders -- having built something, they can't
stop tinkering with it. That's what's been going
on here for the last few months: tinkering and adding
doodads to enhance your TrainPlaying experience.
The results are in Version 4.1, now ready for download,
featuring new tools for scenery and track artists, new
decorations for your layout, and the usual round of
paint touchup and soot removal.

Features
Ties!
Provide support for your rails and a new look to your
layout. One click generates sharp regulation-size
ties under all selected tracks. Looks great on top
of roadbed.
Bring your layout to life with little moving pictures.
Download or create your own. Set them to trigger
on train events, so you get effects like working signals
which wave and clang as the train goes by.
Car
label improvements! Exercise more control over
car labels with a new display mechanism. Turn them
all on or off with one click.
Rotate or flip the track selection to get that yard just
where you want it. Embedded sections move without
breaking track connectivity.
A new image export feature lets you move
scenery, ties, and roadbed off the layout and into the
background layer. A new Image Export Wzard leads
you through the steps.
Bug fixes. Updated manual. Simplified
interface. Improved preferences.

How To Upgrade
--
thank you! You can upgrade free to 4.1 and get
many new features. If you do not yet have 4.0 and
want the Ops system, there is a $29 charge.
-
If you have been
running 4.0: you do not need to
uninstall 4.0. The 4.1 installer will update your
existing files without adding new folders. Start
menu items and desktop icons continue to say
"TrainPlayer 4."
-
If you have been
running the 4.1 pre-release version:
please uninstall the pre-release 4.1.x before
installing 4.1. The install locations and
mechanisms have changed.
-
If you have an
older version: we recommend you
uninstall your older version before installing 4.1.
License codes for users of 3.3 or above will still
work with 4.1. If you want to upgrade from a
version prior to 3.3, write for info about how to do
that.

Fine Print
Requirements. Programs run under
Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7. An
internet connection is useful but not essential -- you
need one to browse and download content from the web,
but you can run without it when using content from your
disk or DVD. Disk space: you need only about 30MB
to install the program files, but will want more than
that to download content from web or DVD -- around 1GB for the full content.
Delivery
on DVD. Products are available on DVD for
a $10 shipping charge. This includes all
purchased content, so no download
is needed. To request a DVD, use the
Shipping
drop-down menu on the checkout page, as shown here ==>
Note:
Version 4.1 DVD's will be shipping around November 15, 2011.
(Sorry we got this line wrong in the mailing!)
License agreement. Our license
agreement is displayed during install and reproduced in
the Readme file. It says you are allowed to
install the program on as many computers as you like, as
long as you don't sell or give away the license key.
